Discussion Issue:
American-born Children of Illegal Immigrants
Facts, factoids, concerns, considerations:
- 300,000 children of illegal immigrants are born in the United States every year. [1]
- The 14th Amendment to the U.S.Constitution [2]
- guarantees [U.S.] citizenship to any child born within the United States.
- When the child reaches age 21, he can "sponsor" his parents to become U.S. Citizens.
- 300,000 x 21 = 6.2 million more children of Illegal Immigrants.
- 4 millions children [3]
- Children of deported illegal immigrants,
like children of incarcerated criminals,
become wards of the state at taxpayer expense.
- This is a "fully predictable result" of the 14th amendment to the constitution.
|
Liberal concerns:
- It is not the child's fault that its parents are illegals.
- If you deport the parents, who will take care of the child?
- If you force the deported parents to take the child with them,
you will be violating the 14th Amendment of the United States
|
Conservative concerns:
- They are 'non-producers.'
They provide no goods or services.
- They are a cost-burden to taxpayers.
- They put an unfair drain on government services.
- This was not within the vision of those who
approved the 14th amendment. [7]
- If this continues, the results are fully predictable.
- It is an unsustainable economic situation.
|
Questions:
- What would be a fair solution?
- What would King Solomon have done?
- What would John Galt have done?
